The exam season is here! Does your child’s revision method need an upgrade?
Exams can be a scary experience for some, but a carefully planned walk in the park for others. As your child’s exams approach at an alarming speed, the time to revise seems to be getting shorter and shorter every day. Reviewing a conceptual subject like math can be tricky, that’s why we’ve brought together a list of exam preparation and revision tips to help your child revise like a pro.
#1. Let your child test practice papers
Practice papers are a great way to help your child get the real feel of the pattern of the exam they’re due to appear. Not just that, practice papers help your child understand their problem areas and practice those concepts where they need to put more attention to. Practice papers help you and your child see the mistakes that they made, figuring out the Why behind the errors would reduce the chances of your child making the same mistakes again.
#2. Writing down the steps
It has psychologically being proved that writing something down is the best way to remember, understand and retain information. Let your child write the WHY behind the WHAT of math concepts and later have them explain how they solved the problem to different members of your family; this would ensure better retention and understanding of the concepts your child studied.
#3. Make your child flashcards
Flashcards are an excellent way for your child to test their knowledge and understanding of certain math concepts, formulas, and problems. The flash card would have a conceptual math problem on one side and the answer on the opposite side.
A good activity for your child to help them revise would be to put up flashcards on every door of your house, every time your child wants to enter a room, they will have to answer the math question on the flash card.
#4. Ask a MATH expert
Sometimes your child may face a problem or a math concept that they don’t quite understand correctly. It’s always good to let your child ask their friends, family member and teacher for help with their revision. At Cuemath, we ensure your child’s exam preparation and revision is strong by helping them ask questions and understand the WHY behind the WHAT of math concepts. We don’t just teach math, we help your child visualise solutions to even the toughest math problems.
#5. Make sure your child gets adequate rest
Research has shown that a simple period of rest after learning can help your child remember math concepts even a week later! Revising chapters can get stressful for your child sometimes, having to go over the information again and again requires adequate rest and breaks. Ensure your child is getting periodic breaks in between their exam preparation and revision, this would make sure your child is able to perform better.
Don’t let the stress of exam get to you and your child. Cuemath helps your child understand the WHY behind the WHAT of math concepts instead of rot learning formulas and math problems. We go a step ahead of the general blackboard method of learning by ensuring your child gets the individual attention they need to ace their math exams!
