Can You Solve This Colorful Rectangle Puzzle?

Let’s start with the problem statement once again:

Solution:

Note that the orange rectangle and the pink rectangle have the same height (H1):

Also, the ratio of the areas of the two rectangles is 15:45 or 1:3

Therefore, the ratio of the width of the orange rectangle to the width of the pink rectangle must be 1:3 (heights are same and area = height x width)

Next, observe that the blue rectangle shares the same width with the orange rectangle (W1) and the green rectangle shares the same width with the pink rectangle (W2):

Therefore, the ratio of the width of the blue rectangle to the width of the green rectangle must be 1:3

Also, these two rectangles have the same height (H2):

Hence, the ratio of the area of the blue rectangle to the area of the green rectangle must be 1:3

Area(Blue):Area(Green) = 1:3

18:Area(Green) = 1:3

Therefore,

Area(Green) = 18 x 3 = 54
