The pointslope formula is used to find the equation of a line. The equation of a line whose slope is "m" and which passes through a point (x_{1},y_{1}) is found using the pointslope form. What Is the Point Slope Formula?
The equation of pointslope formula is used to find the equation of a line when we know the slope of the line and a point on the line are known. It is given by,
y − y\(_1\)_{ }= m (x − x\(_1\))
where
 (x, y) is a random point on the line.
 \((x_1,y_1)\) is a fixed point on the line.
 m is the slope of the line.

Example 1: Use the pointslope formula to find the equation of the line with slope −1 and a point (1, 2) on the line.

Given:
Slope of line = 1
Point lying on the line = (1, 2)
Using the pointslope formula,
y − y_{1 }= m (x − x_{1})
y − 2 = −1 (x − 1)
x + y  1 = 0
Answer: Equation of the line is x + y  1 = 0

Example 2: Use the pointslope formula to find the equation of the line with slope 0 and a point (3, 2) on the line.
Solution:

Given:
Slope of line = 0
Point lying on the line = (3, 2)
Using the pointslope formula,
y − y_{1 }= m (x − x_{1})
y − (−2) = 0 (x − 3)
y + 2 = 0
