AP Calculus BC 5/5: Nalini's Seven-Year Path to a Perfect Score

Seven years ago, when Cuemath was new to the US, Nalini was one of its very first students, learning elementary school math. This year, in eleventh grade, she aced a college-level calculus exam.

That long arc closed with a perfect result. Nalini, a Grade 11 student in the US, scored a 5 out of 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, the highest mark on one of the most advanced math courses high school offers. Her Cuemath tutor through the high school years, Rajini Balaji, guided the final stretch, capping seven years of steady online math tutoring that began back in her primary grades.

Staying with math for seven years, and getting stronger the whole way, is rare. Interest fades, the work gets harder each year, and somewhere along the way many students quietly decide math is not their thing. Nalini's path went the other way. Year after year the math got deeper, and she leaned in rather than pulled back, until the course in front of her was AP Calculus BC, a class that packs two semesters of college calculus into a single high school year.

By high school, the question was never whether she loved math, only how far it could take her, and AP Calculus BC is about as far as high school goes. BC moves quickly and demands real fluency, from integrals to infinite series, exactly the kind of material that rewards a foundation built patiently over time.

What kept Nalini moving forward was an approach that met her wherever she happened to be. When school introduced something new, her Cuemath sessions went deeper on it; when a concept from class needed reinforcing, they circled back until it was solid. Through the high school years, Rajini held that standard at the level AP Calculus BC demanded, keeping the pace high and the understanding genuine rather than rushed.

AP Calculus BC is an introductory college-level course, covering about two semesters of university calculus in one year, from limits and integrals to infinite series. The exam is scored from 1 to 5, and a 5, the highest, can earn college credit for both semesters of calculus at many universities. It is one of the most demanding courses a high schooler can take, and Nalini is not the only Cuemath student to reach the top of it, another Grade 11 student earned the same perfect 5 on AP Calculus BC.

Seven years is a long time to stay with anything, and Nalini stayed with math the whole way. What began as elementary school lessons grew, year by year, into college-level calculus she could take on and ace.
