AP Precalculus 5/5: Nikhil's Perfect Score, Built on Understanding

Nikhil Karuparthi, Grade 10 AP Precalculus perfect score of 5, Cuemath student
Nikhil Karuparthi, Grade 10 AP Precalculus, Score 5, Cuemath US

Getting the right answer is one thing. Understanding why it works is another, and that is the part Nikhil cared about most.

That habit paid off. Nikhil, a Grade 10 student in the US, scored a perfect 5 out of 5 on the AP Precalculus exam and lifted his school math grades along the way. Guiding him was his Cuemath tutor, Radhika Srinath, through weekly online math tutoring.

Meet Nikhil

  • Grade: 10
  • Country: US
  • Tutor: Radhika Srinath
  • With Cuemath For: About 5 years (since 2021)
  • AP Precalculus: 5 out of 5 (perfect score)

AP Precalculus covers a lot of ground, and a top score is not about memorizing formulas the night before. It means understanding each idea well enough to use it, and staying on top of a wide syllabus without falling behind.

Nikhil is a naturally disciplined student, the kind who starts early and works steadily. But discipline on its own does not earn a 5 on a demanding exam. What turns steady effort into that 5 is grasping each concept deeply, and having a tutor who knows exactly where the weak spots are.

"Nikhil has been my student for the past 2.5 years. So, when it was time to prep for the AP Pre-calc exam, we already had a good understanding of each other’s working style. I knew exactly where his strengths and weaknesses lay. This helped immensely in helping him crack a 5/5 on the exam.

Being a disciplined child, Nikhil started preparing quite early on. I would help him understand a topic in class, discuss what needs to be done as home work before the next class. Nikhil would complete his homework, neatly mark his doubts for the next session and clear all his doubts with me. This systematic approach helped him tackle the entire syllabus without feeling overburdened. Where he faced particular difficulty (like polar functions), we scheduled extra sessions to ensure Nikhil is thorough with his concepts.

It has been a pleasure working with Nikhil. I look forward to seeing him ace AP Calculus as well next year."

~ RADHIKA SRINATH, CUEMATH TUTOR

Radhika taught for real mastery. She would explain a topic, agree on the homework, and then have Nikhil walk her through it himself, so she could see he truly understood rather than just recalled. He came to each session with his doubts marked and ready, and they worked through them together. When a topic gave him trouble, like polar functions, they added extra sessions until it was solid. One concept at a time, the whole syllabus came within reach, and it never felt overwhelming.

"This past year, Nikhil worked with his Cuemath teacher, Ms. Radhika, to build a strong foundation in precalculus, scoring a 5 on his AP Precalculus exam and excelling in his school math exams as well.

Ms. Radhika’s approach focused on true concept mastery, regularly asking Nikhil to explain ideas back to her to ensure real understanding. As exams approached, she went the extra mile with additional sessions to help him prepare with confidence. A big ‘thank you’ to Ms. Radhika for her outstanding guidance!"

~ NIKHIL'S PARENT

AP Precalculus is a relatively new College Board course, launched in 2023, covering college-level work with functions, from polynomial and rational functions to exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, and polar ones. The exam is scored from 1 to 5, and a 5 is the highest, enough to earn college credit at many universities. Nikhil reached the top of it in Grade 10, and he is not the only Cuemath student to do so, another earned a perfect 5 on AP Precalculus too.

Nikhil could always explain why the math worked, not just get the right answer. That habit, understanding the reasoning behind each idea instead of memorizing steps, is what carried him to a perfect score, and it is what being MathFit really means, real understanding, steady confidence, and the discipline to keep building. With calculus next on his list, the foundation he has laid will only take him further.
