Grade 7 Maths School Topper: The Four Years Behind Advik's A+

Advik was hesitant in his very first Cuemath demo class. Bushra Rizwi has taught him every year since, from Grade 3 to Grade 7, and his teachers now hand him the problems the rest of the year cannot solve.

When Advik's parents booked that first demo class, he said very little in it. Four years later he is the one his teachers hand the hardest problems to.

His Grade 7 annual exam came back with an A+ in mathematics, and his Coach calls him the school topper. Bushra Rizwi has taught him through every one of those years of online maths tutoring, since he joined in Grade 3.

Meet Advik

  • Grade: 7
  • Country: India
  • Coach: Bushra Rizwi
  • With Cuemath Since: Grade 3
  • Annual Exam (2026): A+ in mathematics, school topper

What stood between Advik and the subject at the start was not the maths itself. It was how much a wrong answer felt like it cost in front of someone else. When being wrong runs expensive, a child offers fewer attempts, and attempts are the whole way the subject gets built.

His parents saw it in that first demo. Plainly able, taking his time before he spoke. The decision they made then was not about a syllabus. It was about whether this particular teacher could get him to open up, and they stayed with her for four years on the strength of that one class.

"Advik's academic evolution from Grade 3 to Grade 7 is a profound example of what perseverance and dedication can achieve. Overcoming an initial shyness and a fear of failure, he has utilized his natural aptitude to build an exceptionally strong conceptual foundation and confidence in mathematics. Today, he stands as the "school topper", earning well-deserved praise from his teachers for his ability to solve highly complex and challenging problems. He possesses immense potential, and I take great pride in celebrating this landmark achievement in his educational journey."

~ Bushra Rizwi, Cuemath Coach

What Bushra did first was work out how he thinks. His parents describe it as understanding his wavelength, and what it meant in practice was that Advik stopped being asked to perform and started being asked what he reckoned. Setbacks became the material rather than the verdict. Once a wrong answer was no longer expensive, he started offering them, and the conceptual foundation his Coach describes got built out of those attempts rather than around them.

"My son Advik Kalyanakumar, exactly started his cuemath journey with Mrs.Bushra after the lockdown. At the beginning he was bit hesitant. But right from demo class Mrs. Bushra understood his wavelength and made him so comfortable that he is still travelling along with her. Only because of her he could build his confidence and made his set backs as a stepping stone. Now he is curious and willing to continue his journey which takes him to the next level of success. Thank you Cuemath team, especially Mrs Bushra for her support"

~ Advik's Parent

The grade is the easy part to see. The part his Coach keeps returning to is that his teachers now single him out for the complex problems, which is a different claim from a high mark. A mark says a student covered the syllabus. Being handed the hard question says the people who teach him expect him to get somewhere with it.

The boy who barely spoke in that demo class is now the one the room waits on. Advik works from a foundation he understands rather than a method he remembers, takes on the problems his teachers save for the hardest questions, and treats a setback as the next step rather than the verdict. Four years of being asked what he thinks made him MathFit. Middle school is when a child decides whether maths is theirs. That window does not stay open long.
