Harvard University

In exceptional cases when SAT and ACT tests are not accessible, one of the following can meet the requirement:

Princeton University

Princeton will return to mandatory standardized testing for undergraduate admission beginning with the 2027-28 admission cycle. First-year and transfer applicants seeking to enroll in fall 2028 will need to submit either SAT or ACT scores.

Princeton, however, also states that if you sat for an Advanced Placement (AP) test, you self-report all of your AP scores on your application.

Penn awards credit almost entirely for a score of 5, but only in specific subjects. A 5 on AP Calculus BC earns credit for Math 1300 (students entering 2025 onward), while AP Calculus AB earns no credit at all.

A 5 also earns credit in Physics C, Computer Science A, and Economics (Micro and Macro), and foreign-language exams can fulfil the language requirement, with a 5 earning course credit and a 4 satisfying the requirement without it.

Cornell University

Cornell's AP credit depends heavily on which college and major you enter. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

MIT is strict: it grants credit only for an AP score of 5, with no partial credit for lower scores. A 5 on AP Calculus BC earns credit for 18.01 (MIT's single-variable calculus course), while a 5 on AP Calculus AB earns no credit but lets you enroll in the accelerated 18.01A/18.02A sequence.

Top Public Universities

Public universities tend to be far more generous with AP credit, since state systems use it to help students save on tuition and graduate on time.

University of California: Berkeley & UCLA

A 4 or 5 AP score can earn you college credit before you even set foot on campus, which means skipping some intro courses and saving time and tuition. AP Calculus BC is one of the most rewarding: a qualifying score is worth about two college courses' worth of credit, while AP Calculus AB is worth about half that.
