Kaira Went From Disliking Maths To Calling It Her Favourite
When Kaira joined Cuemath in Year 4, math was far from her favorite subject. By Year 7, her mindset shifted completely. Now she genuinely enjoys tackling complex problems. Behind that progress is her tutor, Kanchan Bopardikar, who has guided her learning every step of the way.
When Kaira joined Cuemath in Year 4, mathematics was her challenging subject. Today, in Year 7, she considers math her favourite and genuinely enjoys solving complex problems. Throughout this transformation, she has been guided by her tutor, Kanchan, through consistent weekly online math tutoring.
Meet Kaira
- Year: 7
- Country: New Zealand
- Tutor: Kanchan Bopardikar
- With Cuemath since: Year 4
- Term 1 2026 PAT Mathematics: her band sits above the band for most New Zealand Year 7 students
- What changed: from disliking math to naming it her favourite subject
PAT Compares Her Against Every Year 7 In New Zealand
Progressive Achievement Tests are written by the New Zealand Council for Educational Research and sat in schools across the country. A result comes back as a stanine between 1 and 9, which places a student against the national spread rather than against the other children in her class. Schools report it alongside the teacher's own judgement, not instead of it.
Her Math Band Sits Above Most New Zealand Year 7s
On the Term 1 test, the band marking Kaira's mathematics result sits to the right of the band where most New Zealand Year 7 students fall. Her school teacher's report from the same term describes her as a student who settles quickly to learning, completes her tasks to a high standard, and acts on the feedback she is given.

Love for Math Came From Understanding The Concept
Kaira's own explanation of what changed is not about confidence. It is about comprehension. She says she understood the concepts once she had tutoring, and that is the reason she likes the subject now. The work itself was unglamorous, done on learning sheets, one concept at a time until it held. Kanchan mentions they hardly use games in class, because Kaira would rather spend the hour learning.
Kanchan Bopardikar
Cuemath Tutor
"She joined Cuemath in Year 4. Now she is in Year 7. She disliked math when she joined, and now she says she loves solving problems. Math is her favourite, and she joyfully gives the credit to her Cuemath tutor.
She says she understood the concepts after getting tutoring at Cuemath, and that is why she loves the subject now. We hardly play games, as she loves to learn all the time. Tutoring with the help of sheets helped."
"Kanchan Ma'am's enthusiasm for math is infectious, and her passion for the subject shines through in her teaching. Not only does she tailor her approach based on each child's strengths and weaknesses, but she also goes beyond answering questions by interpreting facial expressions, creating a comfortable environment for kids to express and grasp concepts more effectively. Overall, her approach is highly appreciable."
