Let the number be x

Then two times of the number be 2x

2x + 9 = 13

2x = 13 – 9

x = 4/2

x = 2

Hence if 9 added to twice a number gives 13 then the number is 2.

Let the number be x

Then three times of the number be 3x

3x + 12 = 27

3x = 27 – 12

x = 15/3

x = 5
