By selling a chair for ₹1440, a shopkeeper loses 10%. At what price did he buy it
Solution:
Given, a shopkeeper sells a chair at ₹1440
The shopkeeper loses 10%
We have to find the cost price.
We know, Loss = CP - SP
Loss = CP - 1440
We know, Loss% = Loss/CP × 100
10 = (CP - 1440)/CP × 100
10/100 = CP/CP - 1440/CP
1/10 = 1 - 1440/CP
1/10 - 1 = -1440/CP
-9/10 = -1440/CP
9/10 = 1440/CP
CP = 1440 × 10/9
= 160 × 10
= 1600
Therefore, the cost price is ?1600.
