# Determine the number of edges, vertices and faces in the Fig. 12.12.

**Solution:**

We know that

The different plain regions are known as faces.

The figure has 5 faces.

The line segments which are formed where the faces meet are known as edges.

The figure has 8 edges.

The edges meet a point known as vertices.

The figure has 5 vertices.

Therefore, a square pyramid has 8 edges, 5 vertices and 5 faces.

**✦ Try This: **Given a line l and a point M on it draw a perpendicular MP to l where MP = 4.2cm and a line q parallel to l through P.
