# What happens when 1 cm worms are sent through these hook-ups in figure (i)?

**Solution:**

Given, 1 cm worms are sent through these hook ups

We have to find the length of the worm.

From the figure,

Machine 1, Input = 1 cm

Work done = 2¹ = 2

Output = 1 × 2 = 2 cm

Machine 2, Input = 2 cm

Work done = 2⁻¹

Using the __law of exponents__,

a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ

So, 2⁻¹ = 1/2

Output = 2 × 1/2

= 1 cm

Therefore, 1 cm worms sent through these hook-ups remain the same.
