Solve the following system. (Use (x,y) format in a single answer space.)
x2 + y2 = 25 and y2 - x2 = 7
Solution:
Rearranging the the two given equations, we have
x2 + y2 = 25 --- (1)
- x2 + y2 = 7--- (2)
Adding the two equations
x2 + y2 = 25
-x2 + y2 = 7
----------------
0 + 2y2 = 32
2y2 = 32
y2 = 16
y = ±4
Substituting the value of y in either (1) or (2) we obtain the value of x as:
x = ±3
The solution of the system of equations is (±3, ±4)
Solve the following system. (Use (x,y) format in a single answer space.)
x2 + y2 = 25 and y2 - x2 = 7
Summary:
The solution of the system of equations x2 + y2 = 25 and y2 - x2 = 7 is (±3, ±4).
