You are dealt one card from a 52-card deck. Find the probability that you are not dealt: a heart.
Solution:
Given a set of 52 cards deck.
A standard deck of cards contains 13 spades, 13 clubs, 13 hearts, 13 diamonds
So there are 13 chances to draw a heart.
Let P be the probability of getting a heart in 52-cards
P = favourable events / total events
P = 13/52
P = 0.25
But we need probability of not getting a heart, let it be P'
We know that the sum of probability and its complement probability is equal to 1
P + P' = 1
P' = 1 - P
P' = 1 - 0.25
P' = 0.75
You are dealt one card from a 52-card deck. Find the probability that you are not dealt: a heart.
Summary:
If you are dealt one card from a 52-card deck then the probability that you are not dealt a heart is 0.75
