How many square metres of canvas is required for a conical tent whose height is 3.5 m and the radius of the base is 12 m?
Solution:
Given, height of conical tent, h = 3.5 m
The radius of the base, r = 12 m
We have to find the canvas area of the conical tent
Canvas area = curved surface area
We know, l² = r² + h²
l² = (12)² + (3.5)²
l² = 144 + 12.25
l² = 156.25
Taking square root,
l = 12.5 m
Curved surface area of cone = πrl
Where, r is the radius of the cone
l is the slant height
= (22/7)(12)(12.5)
= 3300/7
= 471.43 m²
Therefore, the canvas area is 471.43 m²
