# Compare the following numbers

(i) 2.7 × 10^{12}; 1.5 × 10^{8 }(ii) 4 × 10^{14}; 3 × 10^{17}

**Solution:**

In this question, simplify the numbers and decide which one is greater.

Another way is to look at the power of 10.

The number with higher power of 10 is greater than the other.

(i) In numbers, 2.7 × 10^{12} and 1.5 × 10^{8}

2.7 × 10^{12} = 2.7 × 1000000000000 = 2700000000000

And,

1.5 × 10^{8} = 1.5 × 8 = 1.5 × 100000000 = 150000000

So, 2.7 × 10^{12} is greater than 1.5 × 10^{8}

(ii) In numbers, 4 × 10^{14}; 3 × 10^{17}

4 × 10^{14} = 4 × 100000000000000 = 400000000000000

And,

3 × 10^{17} = 3 × 100000000000000000 = 300000000000000000

So, 3 × 10^{17} is greater than 4 × 10^{14}
