# If 7/3% of a number is 42, then the number is

(a) 9800

(b) 8

(c) 1800

(d) 180

**Solution:**

Let the number be x

7/3 percent of x is expressed as

[(7/3) × (1/100)] × (x)

= 7x/300

It is given that 7/3 % of a number is 42, therefore we can state that,

7x/300 = 42

x = (42 × 300)/(7)

= (42/7) × (300)

= 6 × 300

= 1800

**✦ ****Try this:** Find the number, 7% of which is 56.

Assuming the number to be x

We can write:

(7/100)(x) = 56

7x/100 = 56

x = (56/7) × 100

= 800

The number 7% of which will be 56 is 800.
