Explain How to Use Multiplication to Check the Answer to a Division Problem?
We can use a formula to verify the division problem
Answer: (Quotient × Divisor) + Remainder = Dividend can be used to check the answer to a division problem.
Let us understand this concept with an example.
Explanation
Let us consider the division 9 ÷ 4
Here the dividend is 8 and the divisor is 4 the quotient is 2 and the remainder is 1.
Now multiply 2 with 4 and add 1
i.e., 2 × 4 + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9
Hence, when we multiply the quotient with the divisor and add the remainder we get the dividend back. This way we can verify the division problem using multiplication.
Thus, (Quotient × Divisor) + remainder = Dividend can be used to check the answer to a division problem.
