What is the area of the kite in the figure below?

Solution:
The above figure can be seen as a polygon comprising 4 triangles.
If we add up the areas of four triangles we get the area of the kite.
(A).There are two triangles with Base = 2 feet and Altitude = 10 feet
Therefore the area of the two triangles are
(1/2) × 2 × 10 + (1/2) × 2 × 10
= 10 + 10 square feet
= 20 square feet
(B).There are two other triangles with Base = 2 feet and altitude = 20 feet
(1/2) × 2 × 20 + (1/2) × 2 × 20
= 20 + 20 square feet
= 40 square feet
The total area of the kite is
= (20 + 40) square feet = 60 feet
What is the area of the kite in the figure below
Summary:
The area of the kite is 60 square feet
