How Our Math Tests Make Your Child MathFit™

This test measures the four skills that make a child MathFit™ — and the gaps it just uncovered are exactly what our expert tutors help your child master in live 1-on-1 sessions.
Fluency
Solving problems with accuracy, efficiency, and flexibility.
Example
Sorting shapes into triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles without counting sides each time.
Understanding
Moving beyond 'how' to 'why'.
Example
Knowing a square is a kind of rectangle — because the rules of one are built into the other.
Application
Using math across different problems and contexts.
Example
Using the same area logic for a rectangle, a triangle, and a parallelogram — same idea, different shape.
Reasoning
Training the brain to think logically and explain the choice.
Example
Explaining why two shapes with different sides can have the same area — and proving it works.

FAQs

What does the Grade 1 math test cover?

The Grade 1 math test covers topics across Numbers and Operations (before, after and between, visual models of 2-digit numbers, place value, number patterns, addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers), Geometry (identifying triangles, patterns in shapes), and Measurement (application of length measurement, comparing and ordering length).

What is the Grade 1 math test?

The Grade 1 math test is a free assessment that goes beyond a single score. It shows you:
Your child’s exact math skills for their grade — topic by topic, not just a total score
Strengths to celebrate and the areas to work on next
Whether your child understands each topic or has only memorized the steps

How long does the Grade 1 math test take?

The test has 12 questions and takes about 10–12 minutes. No prep needed — just let your child answer naturally.

Is the Grade 1 math test based on school curriculum?

Yes. The test covers foundational Grade 1 skills taught in a typical first-grade classroom — addition and subtraction, place value, 2D shapes, and patterns.

Is the Grade 1 math test really free?

Completely free — no credit card, no signup needed to take the test. The score appears right after your child submits, and entering your email unlocks the full breakdown — the four skill scores, how they did on every topic, and personalized tips that build both skills and math mindset.

What does the Grade 1 math test score mean?

Your child’s score reflects how they performed across 4 skill areas — Fluency, Understanding, Application, and Reasoning. Each area is rated out of 10, giving you a detailed picture beyond just a total score.

Can I share the report with my child's teacher?

Yes. Save the full report as a PDF from your browser, then share it with your child’s teacher on WhatsApp, email, or any messaging app — or bring it to your next parent-teacher meeting.

What is the MathFit™ score?

The MathFit™ score is a number out of 10 that reflects your child’s overall math readiness for their grade. It is calculated from how they perform across four skill areas — Fluency, Understanding, Application, and Reasoning — each scored separately. The score is a starting point for action, not a label.

What do Fluency, Understanding, Application, and Reasoning mean?

These four dimensions give a fuller picture of math ability than a single score. Fluency measures how quickly and accurately your child recalls number facts and executes procedures — for Grade 1, this includes adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. Understanding measures whether they grasp the concept behind the procedure — for example, knowing why 10 ones equal 1 ten, not just that they do. Application measures whether they can use math to solve real-world problems, like a word problem about lengths. Reasoning measures logical thinking — spotting patterns in shapes or comparing heights using clues. Together, these four dimensions show not just what your child knows, but how deeply they know it.

What grade level is this test for?

This test is built for Grade 1 (1st grade), covering the math taught in a typical first-grade classroom. Tests for Grades 2 through 8 are linked above, each matched to that grade’s topics.

What should my child do after the test?

After the test, the report names the exact topics where your child needs more practice and gives personalized tips to build both the skills and the mindset behind them. Free Grade 1 worksheets above give your child practice on each of those topics. And to turn the growth areas into real strengths with guided learning, book a free trial of a Cuemath 1-on-1 online class.
