A shopkeeper was selling all his items at 25% discount. During the off season, he offered 30% discount over and above the existing discount. If Pragya bought a skirt which was marked for Rs 1,200, how much did she pay for it
Solution:
Since the marked price is Rs. 1200 and first discount is 25% the discounted price is,
Discount = Discount% × 1200
Discount = (25/100) × 1200 = Rs. 300
Discounted Price = Rs. 1200 - Rs. 300 = Rs. 900
The shopkeeper gives another discount of 30% as an off season offer on the new marked price of Rs. 900
Discount = Discount% × 900
Discount = (30/100) × 900 = Rs. 270
Discounted Price = Rs. 900- Rs. 270 = Rs. 630
Hence Pragya Pays Rs. 630 for the skirt.
✦ Try This: A shopkeeper was selling all his items at 20% discount. During the off season, he offered 25% discount over and above the existing discount. If Pragya bought a skirt which was marked for Rs 1,600, how much did she pay for it?
Since the marked price is Rs. 1600 and first discount is 20% the discounted price is,
Discount = Discount% × 1600
Discount = 20/100) × 1600 = Rs. 320
Discounted Price = Rs. 1600 - Rs. 320 = Rs. 1280
The shopkeeper gives another discount of 30% as an off season offer on the new marked price of Rs. 1280
Discount = Discount% × 1280
Discount = (25/100) × 1280 = Rs. 320
Discounted Price = Rs.1280 - Rs. 320 = Rs. 960
Hence Pragya Pays Rs. 960 for the skirt.
