The hall is in a rectangular shape.
⇒ Area of the hall = length × breadth
⇒ 300 m2 = x × (2x+ 1)
⇒ 2x2 + x - 300 = 0
Split bx into such a way that it is equal to a×c
1x can be split into - 24 and 25. [ ∵ (- 24) × (25) = - 600]
⇒ 2x2 + x - 300 = 0 can be written as
⇒ 2x2 - 24x + 25x - 300 = 0
Take out common terms.
⇒ 2x (x - 12) + 25 (x - 12) = 0
⇒ (x - 12)(2x + 25) = 0
Since the roots of the given equation are x = 12 or x = - 12.5
The breadth of the hall cannot be negative.
⇒ x = 12 is the breadth of the hall and the length = 2x + 1 = 25 m
