Two angles are making a linear pair. If one of them is one-third of the other, find the angles
Solution:
Given, two angles make a linear pair.
One of them is one-third of the other.
We have to find the angles.
Linear pairs of angles are formed when two lines intersect each other at a single point.
Let one angle be x
According to the question,
Other angle = 1/3(x)
Linear pair angles are supplementary angles as their sum is 180°.
So, x + 1/3(x) = 180°
x[(3 + 1)/3)] = 180°
x(4/3) = 180°
4x = 180°(3)
x = 180°(3)/4
x = 90°(3)/2
x = 45°(3)
x = 135°
Other angle = 1/3(135°)
= 45°
Therefore, the angles are 135° and 45°.
