CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the CBSE Class 12 maths exam in all affiliated schools in India adhering to the syllabus and curriculum prescribed by NCERT. National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) complies with CBSE for secondary school education. CBSE has declared some major changes in the Class 12 maths exam pattern due to the current pandemic situation. The board has launched a special assessment scheme and has decided to rationalize the syllabus for Class 12 students. Based on the new assessment scheme, the CBSE Class 12 maths exam will be held in two terms: Term I and Term II.
- Term-I CBSE Class 12 maths exam will be held during the month of November and December 2021.
- Term-II CBSE Class 12 maths exam will be held during the months of March and April 2022.
Each exam will cover the fifty percent rationalized syllabus taught to students during the term duration. The rationalized syllabus will be carefully examined and separated into terms by subject matter experts. The term exam will aim to assess students’ analytical skills, conceptual clarity, and practical knowledge. The exam will be organized at the end of each term and marks obtained in both exams and internal assessments will contribute to the final results of students. However, for academic transactions, the CBSE schools have to follow the curriculum and syllabus released in the month of march by CBSE.
Term- I of CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam
The term I of the CBSE Class 12 maths exam will be of 90 minutes duration. The exam will comprise minimum of 30% competency based questions that may include case-based questions, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), or any other type of questions. CBSE will send the question paper to its affiliated schools along with the marking scheme. The exam will be conducted by the schools and in case the school will not conduct this exam it will be carried online.

Term- II of CBSE Class 12 Maths Exam
The duration of the term II CBSE Class 12 maths exam will be two hours. The format of the questions will be descriptive including detailed questions and objective-type questions. Term II CBSE class 12 maths exam will be held in the CBSE centers. If the situation is not conducive for the exam in March, the school will conduct a two-hour exam in term II. In case, the term II exam is not conducted due to various reasons, results will be decided based on the cumulative marks in the term I exam and internal assessments.
If there is a closure of schools during both terms, the exams will be canceled and the results will be determined based on internal assessments. These conditions are applicable in the current years or coming year if the condition does not become feasible for the Class 12 Board Examination.
Internal Assessment
As directed by the board, the CBSE Class 12 maths exam will be held in two terms, along with more emphasis given to the internal assessment. CBSE Class 12 students will need to take the internal assessment during the whole academic year regardless of the term I and II exam. The internal assessment will include end of topic or unit tests/exploratory activities/practicals/ projects.divided among the following four categories:
- Unit tests
- Multiple Assessment (Practical work, Speaking and listening activities or Math Projects)
- Portfolio
- Student enrichment
Unit Test
There will be a unit test conducted at the end of each topic for Class 12. These tests will carry some marks out of the total marks assigned for internal assessment.
Multiple Assessment
CBSE has authorized schools to conduct assessments in distinct modes as per the subject. Multiple assessments can be assignments, oral tests, activities, etc.
Portfolio
Schools authorities will have to create a portfolio of the student’s performance during the academic year based on the performance in assessments. The portfolio will determine the progress, efforts, growth and accomplishments of the student. Some of the elements included in the portfolio assessment are students’ basic knowledge, completeness of work, quality of work done and fulfillment of guided work as per curriculum objectives.
Subject Enrichment Activities
These activities assess the performance of students based on math projects, practicals, and skills of a student. The subject improvement activities hold five marks and are specific to the subject.
