Solution:
The given function is f(x) =a/x⁴ - b/x² + cos x. It can be written as f(x) = ax-4 - bx-2 + cos x.
Using the derivative formula, d/dx (xn) = n xn-1, the derivative of the given function is
d/dx (f(x)) = a (-4x-5) - b (-2x-3) + (- sin x)
= -4a/x5 + 2b/x3 - sin x
