**Solution: **

For the numerator, the __identity__ a² - b² = (a - b) (a + b) can be used

Here, a = 38 and b = 22

Therefore, (38² - 22²) / 16 = [(38 - 22) (38 + 22)] / 16

= [16 × 60] / 16

= 960/16

= 60
