The median of the data 40, 50, 99, 68, 98, 60, 94 is
(a) 40
(b) 60
(c) 68
(d) 99
Solution:
Given, the data is 40, 50, 99, 68, 98, 60, 94
We have to find the median of the given data.
When the given data is arranged in ascending (or descending) order, then the middle most observation is the median of the data.
Arranging the data in ascending order, we get
40, 50, 60, 68, 94, 98, 99
Number of observations, n = 7
If n is odd, then median = (n + 1)/2 th term
Median = (7 + 1)/2 th term
= 8/2 th term
= 4th term
4th term = 68
Therefore, the median is 68.
