# The two graphs below compare Car A and Car B. The left graph shows the relationship between age and value. The right graph shows the relationship between size and maximum speed.

Use the graphs to determine whether each statement is true or false, and explain your answer.

(a) The older car is less valuable.

(b) The faster car is larger.

(c) The larger car is older.

(d) The faster car is older.

(e) The more valuable car is slower.

**Solution:**

(a)The older car has less value is a FALSE statement because the graph on the left hand side reveals that as age of car increases its value increases. Example is car B.

(b)The faster car is larger is a TRUE statement. The graph on the right hand side suggests that only. Car B is larger and faster.

(c)The larger Car is older - From the two graphs one cannot determine whether this statement is true or false as there is not enough information in the two graphs.

(d)Since there is no graph which relates speed of the car with age of the car directly or indirectly we cannot conclude whether this statement is true or false.

(e)Again none of the two graphs indicate any relationship between value of the car with speed either directly or indirectly.

**✦ Try This: **From the graphs below determine whether the statements related to the graph are true and false. Also explain your reason for stating so.

(a)The brand value of A is more than B

(b)The higher the brand value the higher the market share.

(c)The higher the Brand value the higher the price of the brand.

(d)The higher the price of the brand higher its market share.

(a)The brand value of A is more than B - The statement is true as it evident from graph 1 as well as graph 2.

(b)The higher the brand value the higher the market share - The statement is true. The Graph 1 verifies the statement as true.

(c)The higher the brand value higher the price of the brand - The statement is not necessarily true as evident from graph 2 where Brand A has higher value but price lower than Brand B which has higher price but lower brand value.

(d) The higher the price of the brand higher its market-share. - The statement is False because the price of brand B is higher but its market share is less than that of A.
