Which of the following vary inversely with each other
(a) speed and distance covered
(b) distance covered and taxi fare
(c) distance travelled and time taken
(d) speed and time taken
Solution:
The variables which vary inversely with each other is speed and time taken. If speed is more time taken is less.
Time = Distance/Speed
The above relation shows that time taken is inversely proportional to speed.
If time is T and S is speed then,
TS = K (Here the proportionality constant k is the distance covered)
✦ Try This: How much less time is taken to cover a distance of 780 Km if the speed of the car increases from 52Km/h to 65 km/h?
Distance Covered = 780 Km
Time taken to cover with an average speed of 52 km/h = 780/52 = 15 hours
Time taken to cover with an average speed of 65 km/h = 780/65 = 12 hours
Hence by travelling at an average speed of 65km/h the time taken to travel reduces by 15 - 12 = 3 hours
