A die is tossed. Find the odds against rolling a number greater than 4.
Solution:
We know that there are 6 sides to the die.
On rolling a die, 5 and 6 are the only options that are greater than 4.
The sample space is {1,2,3,4,5,6}. n(S) = 6
We have 1/6 chance of rolling any given number.
∴ The favourable chances of rolling 5 and 6 = 2,
1/6 + 1/6
= 2/6
= 1/3
A die is tossed. Find the odds against rolling a number greater than 4.
Summary:
When a die is tossed, the odds against rolling a number greater than 4 is 1/3.
