The sum of the measures of angle A and angle Y is 90. If the measure of angle X is 30 less than twice the measure of angle Y, what is the measure of angle X?
Solution:
Let the measure of angle X be x.
Given that the sum of angles X and Y is 90º
Measure of angle Y is 90º - x
But measure of angle X is 30º less than twice the measure of angle Y,
We have x = 2(90º - x) - 30º
or x = 180º - 2x - 30º = 150º - 2x
or 3x = 150º and hence x = 50º
Hence ∠x = 50º
The sum of the measures of angle A and angle Y is 90. If the measure of angle X is 30 less than twice the measure of angle Y, what is the measure of angle X?
Summary:
The sum of the measures of angle A and angle Y is 90. If the measure of angle X is 30 less than twice the measure of angle Y, then the measure of angle X is 50º.
