By travelling at a speed of 48 kilometres per hour, a car can finish a certain journey in 10 hours. To cover the same distance in 8 hours, the speed of the car should be
(a) 60 km/h
(b) 80 km/h
(c) 30 km/h
(d) 40 km/h
Solution:
Speed of the car = 48 Km/h
Distance covered in 10 hours = Speed × time = 48 × 10 = 480 Km
If the same distance is to be covered in 8 hours the required speed will be:
Speed = Distance/Time = 480/8 = 60 Km/h
✦ Try This: By travelling at a speed of 54 kilometres per hour, a car can finish a certain journey in 12 hours. To cover the same distance in 9 hours, the speed of the car should be (a) 63 km/h, (b) 81 km/h, (c) 72 km/h, (d) 90 km/h
Speed of the car = 54 Km/h
Distance covered in 12 hours = Speed × time = 54 × 12 = 648 Km
If the same distance is to be covered in 9 hours the required speed will be:
Speed = Distance/Time = 648/9 = 72 Km/h
