How to Add Fractions?
There are two types of fractions- like fractions and unlike fractions.
We can add like fractions by adding the numerator of both the fractions and writing the common denominator as the denominator of the answer.
For, unlike fractions, we first convert them into like fractions by taking the LCM of the denominator, then we can add them in the same way as like fractions.
Solved Example on Adding Fractions Calculator
Solved Example 1:
Find the value of 2/3 + 4/5
Solution:
The LCM of 3 and 5 is 15
So, 2/3 can be rewritten as 10/15, and 4/5 can be rewritten as 12/15
Adding the two fractions,
10/15 + 12/15 = (10+12)/15
= 22/15
= \(1\dfrac{7}{15}\)
Now, you can use the calculator given above to add the following fractions:
- 2/7 + 4/9
- 3/5 + 6/11
