# A batch of bottles were packed in 25 boxes with 12 bottles in each box. If the same batch is packed using 20 bottles in each box, how many boxes would be filled?

**Solution:**

Let the number of bottles be x and the number of boxes be y.

If the number of bottles in each box increases, then the number of boxes will decrease. Hence, they are inverse proportion.

Two numbers x and y are said to be in inverse proportion when an increase in one quantity decreases the other quantity and vice versa.

xy = k or x = (1/y) k

where k is a constant.

Hence, x₁y₁ = x₂y₂

12 × 25 = 20 × y₂

y₂ = (12 × 25)/20

y₂ = 15

Thus, 15 boxes will be filled with 20 bottles in each box.
