Find the area of the following circles, given that:
(a) radius = 14 mm (Take π = 22/7) (b) diameter = 49 m
(c) radius = 5 cm
Solution:
(a) Radius of the circle = 14 mm
Area of circle = πr2
= 22/7 × 14 mm × 14 mm
= 22 × 2 mm × 14 mm
= 616 mm2
(b) Diameter of the circle = 49 m
Therefore, radius = diameter/2 = 24.5 m
Area of circle = πr2
= 22/7 × 24.5 m × 24.5 m
= 22 × 24.5 m × 3.5 m
= 1886.5 m2
(c) Radius of the circle = 5 cm
Area of circle = πr2
= 22/7 × 5 cm × 5 cm
= 550/7 cm2
= 78.57 cm2
