# Shyama bought 5 kg 300 g apples and 3 kg 250 g mangoes. Sarala bought 4 kg 800 g oranges and 4 kg 150 g bananas. Who bought more fruits?

**Solution:**

We use the basic concepts of weights and arithmetic operations and decimals to solve the problem.

We know that, 1000 g = 1 kg

According to the question,

Weight of apples bought by Shyama = 5 kg 300 g

= 5 kg + 0.3 kg = 5.3 kg [Since, 300 g = 300 × (1/1000) kg = 0.3 kg]

Weight of mangoes bought by Shyama = 3 kg 250 g

= 3 kg + 0.25 kg = 3.25 kg [Since, 250 g = 250 × (1/1000) kg = 0.25 kg]

∴ Total weight of fruits bought by Shyama = 5.3 kg + 3.25 kg = 8.55 kg

Weight of oranges bought by Sarala = 4 kg 800 g

= 4 kg + 0.8 kg = 4.8 kg [Since, 800 g = 800 × (1/1000) kg = 0.8 kg]

Weight of bananas bought by Sarala = 4 kg 150 g

= 4 kg + 0.15 kg = 4.15 kg [Since, 150 g = 250 × (1/1000) kg = 1.5 kg]

∴ Total weight of fruits bought by Sarala = 4.8 kg + 4.15 kg = 8.95 kg

On comparing the quantity of fruits, we get

8.95 kg > 8.55 kg

Thus, Sarala bought more fruits.
