\(7 \frac{1}{2}\)= ((7 × 2) + 1) / 2 = 15 / 2
\(5 \frac{3}{2}\) = ((5 × 2) + 3) / 2 = 13 / 2
= (15 / 2)  (13 / 2)
= 15  13 / 2
= 2 / 2
= 1

Example 2:
Subtract \(5 \frac{2}{3}\) and \(2 \frac{5}{4} \)
Solution:
We first convert the mixed numbers/fractions into improper fractions.
\(5 \frac{2}{3}\)= ((5 × 3) + 2) / 3 = 17 / 3
\(2 \frac{5}{4} \) = ((2 × 4) + 5) / 4 = 13 / 4
Now, (17 / 3)  (13 / 4) ( As the denominator values are different, take LCM of denominators, that is, LCM of (3,4) which is 12.
= (17 × 4) / 12  (13 × 3) / 12
= 68 / 12  39 / 12
= (68  39) / 12
= 29 /12
