Celsius to Fahrenheit
Celsius to Fahrenheit is the conversion of temperature from Celsius unit to Fahrenheit unit. Temperature expresses how hot or cold an object, surface, or the surrounding areas are. Right from your coffee to your ice cream, to the climate outside, the temperature of everything around you can be measured.
Temperature is measured using a thermometer. While Kelvin is the SI unit of temperature, on a regular basis, we use Centigrade or Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) to measure the temperature.
Definition of Celsius and Fahrenheit
Celsius
The Swedish astronomer, Anders Celsius, invented the Celsius scale in 1742. Hence, the scale is named after him. The Celsius scale, also called the centigrade scale, is based on the freezing point of water which is 0°, and the boiling point of water which is 100°.
The temperature in Celsius is represented in (°C). For example, the normal body temperature is 37°C.
Fahrenheit
The Fahrenheit scale is a temperature scale developed by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit and hence, it is named after him. The boiling point of water is at 212°F and the freezing point at 32°F on this scale.
The temperature in Fahrenheit is represented in °F. For example, the normal body temperature is 98.6°F.
Celsius to Fahrenheit Formula
We know that the freezing point of water is 0 degrees on the Celsius scale and 32 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale, whereas the boiling of water is 100 degrees on a Celsius scale and 212 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale. The formula to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit is given by: °F = °C × (9/5) + 32
How to Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
The formula, °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 is used to convert Centigrade to Fahrenheit. For example, let us convert 20 Celsius to Fahrenheit: 20°C = 20 × (9/5) + 32 = 36 +32 = 68°F. Therefore, 20 Celsius is equal to 68 Fahrenheit (20°C = 68°F).

Relation between Centigrade and Celsius
The Celsius and Centigrade scales are the same. The Celsius scale is based on 100 °C which is the boiling point of water. "Centi" indicates 100 and hence, the Celsius scale is also called the centigrade scale.
Important Points
Some of the important points on Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion are given as:
Anders Celsius and Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit discovered temperature scales to measure how hot or cold things are.
 To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, use the formula °F = °C × (9/5) + 32
The formula can be simply remembered without fractions as 5(°F) = 9(°C) + 160
Solved Examples

Example 1: Ice creams are kept in cold storage at 5°C to prevent them from melting. What is the temperature on the Fahrenheit scale?
Solution
On substituting C = 5 in the formula °F = °C × (9/5) + 32, we get, °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 = 5 × (9/5) + 32 = 9 + 32 = 23 °F. Therefore, ice creams are stored at 23°F.

Example 2: Aman was feeling unwell. His thermometer showed a reading of 37°C. What is the temperature on the Fahrenheit scale? Does he have a fever?
Solution
On substituting C = 37 in the formula °F = °C × (9/5) + 32, we get, °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 = 37 × (9/5) + 32 = 66.6 + 32 = 98.6°F. Therefore, Aman has a normal body temperature of 98.6°F. Since 98.6°F is the normal body temperature, we can say that he doesn't have a fever.
FAQs on Celsius to Fahrenheit
How do you Convert C to F Fast?
It is easy to use the formula 5(°F)= 9(°C) +160 to convert C to F than use the formula °F = °C × (9/5) + 32. For example: 30° C to °F can be calculated easily: °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 = 30 × (9/5) + 32 = 54 + 32 = 86 °F. Therefore, 30° C is equal to 86 °F.
What does 40 Celsius Mean in Fahrenheit?
Substitute C = 40 in the formula of Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 that gives °F =104. Therefore, 40 Celsius mean 104.0 °F. You can also refer to our Celsius to Fahrenheit chart for more C to F conversions.
How do you Remember Temperature Conversion?
An easy way to remember the formula is 5F = 9C +160 where 5F denotes the 5 Fingers on the hand and 9C denotes the 9 lives of a Cat.
How warm is 23 Degrees Celsius in Fahrenheit?
Substitute C = 23 in the formula of Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 that gives °F =73.4. Therefore, 23 Celsius is 73.4 Fahrenheit. It's a warm and cozy temperature.
What is 100 Degrees in Fahrenheit in Celsius?
Substitute F = 100 in the formula of Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 that gives °C =37.78. Therefore, 100 Fahrenheit is equal to 37.78 Celsius.
Is 30 Degrees Fahrenheit Hot or Cold?
Substitute F = 30 in the formula of Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion °F = °C × (9/5) + 32 that gives °C = 1.11. Therefore, 30 Fahrenheit is equal to 1.11 Celsius, and 1.11 °C is a very cold temperature.
